We welcome pilots from out of town and enjoy sharing our sunny skies. We do, however, ask that visiting pilots respect that our sites are very sensitive. We highly recommend that all visiting pilots arrange for a site orientation with one of our SITE Admins. The Montana de Oro and Laguna Lake sites REQUIRE both membership in SLOSA and a site orientation.
Some sites are only available to us because of extensive negotiation with governmental agencies and private landowners. We have entered into agreements that place accountability on SLOSA so membership is REQUIRED FOR THOSE SITES.
When a site indicates that specific paperwork needs to be filed, that form will be available for print-out. We do not require SLOSA membership to fly many of our sites, but SOME do have that requirement as a condition of our use permit or insurance requirements. If you are new to the area and are asked whether you have met the pre-requisites to flying a particular site, by a SLOSA member, please understand that we are only protecting our sites so they will be available in the future.
Local Sites:
- Cayucos - A Hike-up/Drive-up Coastal Soaring Site with spectacular panorama.
- Cuesta Grade - A Drive-up Mountain Thermal Site with some XC potential.
- Montana de Oro (MDO) - A Coastal Soaring Site in a State Park, offering a long ridge.
- Laguna Lake - A low ridge soaring site.
- Shell Beach - A Low Ridge Site considered hazardous - requires a local checkout.
Site Checkouts and Monitors
Some of our sites require a SLOSA Check-out. Some also require a P2, or P3 rating unless "Supervised by an instructor." To help you negotiate your way through the system, here is a list of Instructors and Site Admins that can answer your questions.

Some of our sites require membership to fly due to insurance and/or site-use agreements with the various gov't agencies that have allowed the use of the sites with SLOSA oversight.
There are a number of great reasons to Join SLOSA. If you are just visiting the area your dues will go towards activities that are directed by the SLOSA B.O.D. that encourage the maintenance of present flying sites and establishment of new sites in the Central Coast Area.
Annual Membership is $30/per calendar year. To Join SLOSA, we prefer that you fill out our GO HERE.
